the ledge college from his jail cell. he has never admitted guilt and in the interview he defends his innocence. >> the young man whose dramatic, a veteran accuser and always sought attention started everything. he was join ed by other accuseers. they won. i wondered what they really won, attention, financial gain, prestige will all be temporary. before you blame me as others have, look at everything and everybody. >> now, in his statement, continuously refers to his victims only as accusers. sandusky says he will continue to fight for what he calls justice and a second chance. the search for a missing fairfax county teenager has ended. w.t.wood soon high school senior bryan glenn hadn't been seen since last week.

yesterday, volunteers searching a wooded area found a body. and friend of the family tell fox 5 it was glenn though police have not yet officially identified the body. the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. more county police are investigating a shooting inside a home in silver spring. the home owner knew the woman but the man was a stringer. he said he shot the man after an altercation he later showed up at a local hospital for treatment and is listed in serious condition. so far, no charges have been filed. former virginia governors george allen and tim kaine squared off for another debate in the race for the u.s. senate seat in virginia. the debate touched everything -- touched on everything from

these last several months why he has been the victim of false allegations. jerry sandusky was convicted in june of molesting 10 boys over 15 years. some of the attacks inside penn state facilities. during the sensational trial, eight victims testified against their former mentor. prosecutors argued that sandusky used his fame as a penn state football coach and the charity he founded to target and groom young boys for sexual abuse. in the audio statement given to penn set's college radio station, he said the whole thin ways well orchestrated lie. -- thing was a well orchestrated lie. >> they can take away my leave. they can treat me as a monster. but they can't take away my heart n my heart, i know i did not do these alleged disgusting acts. >> reporter: sandusky says his defense didn't have time to properly prepare for trial and that he was convicted not on evidence but on speculation and dishonesty. his attorneys are planning to appeal the conviction. the proceedings start at 9:00

health officials say the number of meningitis cases

linked to i nationwide outbreak has risen to five in maryland. and officials in virginia are expected to give an update on cases there later today. fox's jonathan siri has the latest. latest. >> reporter: the centers for disease control has a warning. >> the problem is that if that steroid is contaminated with fungus and it is injected directly into the spinal fluid, that can travel up to the linings of the brain which are the protective linings and if those get infected, that is how you get meningitis. >> the product was made by a specialty pharmacy in massachusetts. this particular form has a long incubation period. it can take up to four weeks between a patient being infected and developing systems. the steroid was shipped to medical practices in 23 states.

little bit. >> whoa, whoa! >> apparently, he want to get to something else. >> we are phoning a friend. you didn't have to do any work. we have an infectious diseases physician. good morning, dr. fitzpatrick. welcome back back to the show. we have a number of questions here. we'll start with the first one. what is the purpose of your nose being stuffed when you have a cold. why do we have a stuffy nose? >> welsh this is a really great question about a common annoyance. when a germ like a bacteria or a virus or maybe even something you're allergic to like pollen invades your nose, your body begins to feat back against the invasion. what is happeningen side the nose when these two are battling it out, there is swelling and inflammation inside the nose appear more blood rushes to the area. the nose begins to produce mucus and since the nose becomes so crowded with all this activity and inflammation,

the air pass ang is smaller so it is hard to breathe. >> okay. so it is the nose is in the process of fighting off the irritant? >> yep. >> the next question, and as we're getting into this, it has reminded me to advise our viewers, if you are having breakfast right now, you might want to take a break for a moment. who you blow your nose, why does it stay cheer only for a few moments. >> another really great question. when you blow your nose, you are clearing mucus. as you just mentioned, when the body is fighting back against the infection, there is a constant production of mucus. so when you blow your nose, you only release the mucus that is there for that moment. as the infection continues and the war between your body's defenses and then next or the pollen continues, the mucus will continue to be there until

the infection clears. >> it does happen clearly which is irritating. i'm-- i have an additional question. but first, we'll get to the last viewer question. >> this is gwen. why does vapo rub only last if a few moments when you use it. i know as a kid, i was always told put the vapo rub up there, it will help you. >> it does provide temporary reloaf. if you think about, most medications are only designed to address the symptoms that you have at that moment. they don't address the root problem. so the vapo rub can provide temporary relief. once it wears off, you are still stuck with the problem. you have to keep reapplying and keep reapplying and sometimes it is not as effective. it may be effective the first couple of time but really, as your doctor probably always says, you need to ride the infection or ride the cold out. that just means you need to have a little patience and give your body the time it needs to regain control of the infection or the invasion by the pollen. >> all right.

that goes to the question that i want to add because when you have a cold, especially if you have to work or whatever, we do take cold medication to relieve the symptoms. we know it doesn't end the cold. is it better to not take medication? do you get over the cold fast are if you just let it run its course or -- in other words, does taking medication prolong the cold? >> right. this is a personal decision. i think the cold medication will not necessarily reduce the length of the cold but it is miserable to have a commonwealth edison or have your nose stuffed up or to be achy. so if you want to take medications to feel better, you will but the coal will still be there until, again, the body completes its work. >> okay. very good. >> i was just going to mention at the beginning that, sometimes, just steam kind of seem to help a little by. >> steam, doctor? does that help?
